In honor of comicker extraordinaire Maris Wick's new picture book DRAGON BONES: THE FANTASTIC FOSSIL DISCOVERIES OF MARY ANNING (written by Sarah Glenn Marsh, and out now), here's a drawing of Anning I did a couple years back, but don't think I ever posted.
Today marks the 100th anniversary of the passing of Southern Civil War hero Newt Knight, who led a band of more than a hundred guerrilla commandos, mostly Confederate Army deserters and formerly enslaved people, against the Confederate Army from 1863 to 1865. 1/7
First pass at the (for lack of a better term) season antagonist for OUTLAW'S APPRENTICE, the brasscap sgt that's dogging the leads. Wanted to lean hard into the plays-by-his-own-rules-but-gets-job-done TV cop archetype. Keen to suggest trenchcoat/loose tie, but, y'know, medieval.

(here's lil' Max Casella, the king of New York)
If any of you critics, comickers, and other luminaries are making your Year-In-Review lists and haven't yet read 6 SIDEKICKS OF TRIGGER KEATON (by me and @TheKyleStarks, from Skybound), I hope you'll give it a look. The last issue just came out!
My next project has a 95% chance of prominently featuring a goat and, although I tried to sell it as a research necessity, Liz is probably right that it wouldn't be fair to the goat were we to get one where we live.
(Definitely gonna be visiting goat-having friends, though).
Cleaning my desktop, found these rough designs for Eowyn and Theoden.
