PC-Engine Madou seems to have a much larger dungeon over all, not sure how much larger. I'm near where the end of the GG game occurs, but only seem to be about 2/3 of the way through PC-Engine, based on collectables. Have I mentioned no one has written a FAQ for this version?

Being fully voiced, the PC-Engine feels like it has longer more involved skits when characters meet. Leaning into what was at the time new and exciting about the CD format.

Skeleton T here is one of the few familiar cast members who makes a re-appearance in the remix.

While and some core puzzles are shared between GG and PC-Engine Madou Monogatari almost every NPC interaction is unique for each. GG MM1 mostly has the familiar Puyo gang while PC-Engine introduces a brand new cast of weirdos.

First floor maps from MM1 for GG, PC-Engine and Genesis. You can see the first two are identical 8x8 grids while the Genesis one is different and larger! The SNES game isn't even a dungeon crawler, employing more of a 2D Zelda perspective.

@inkskratch Played through Wonder Boy V: Monster World III recently and took a ton of reference screenshots. Some great pixel art cartooning in that one.

I feel like folks really slept on Heike Story, some of the most beautiful TV animation I've ever seen. I'm pretty certain the backgrounds were directly inspired by the early 20th century Shin-hanga woodblock print movement with its focus on the qualities of light and reflection.

There is no trick to this, except that sometimes "talk" and sometimes "listen" advances you to the next bit of info.
