It's been a minute since I did a #SundayFishSketch. Here's my initial exploration of an anglerfish in watercolor pencil.

@iamscicomm Of course! It's mostly fish. I've recently finished a large commission for a conference that will be revealed next month by the organizers.

Combining themes for #SundayFishSketch. Yellow perch females lay strings/ribbons of eggs during the spring mating season. (Also belated congrats to @DrKatfish!)

A repost of a nurse shark for #SundayFishSketch. I had fun with trying a new technique. Nurse sharks are ovoviviparous: they gestate embryos inside eggs for six months before birthing around 20 pups.

While not classified as endangered, the orange roughy population is rapidly declining due to overfishing. This may be exacerbated by it's long lifespan; they reach maturity at ~20years. #SundayFishSketch

This week's #SundayFishSketch plays dead and is a mouthbrooder: Livingston's cichlid. This particular species is native to Lake Malawi in Africa. It seems to play dead to lure in prey, and then quickly snaps it up!

I had an urgin’ for some sturgeon this #SundayFishSketch! These fish can grow over 7ft long, and live more than 50 years. Unfortunately, the caviar industry has driven many species into the critically endangered category.

#SundayFishSketch of Masterpisces, though it looks a little like Dunkleosteus, is the oldest known vertebrate to give birth to live young. The holotype was found in 2005 in the Gogo Formation in Australia.
