I see the debate between superhero films vs. auteur filmmakers is back again (honestly no idea why), but these filmmakers (Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, etc.) have done so much for the artform that they should be allowed to question/criticize the current state of cinema.
Wow... Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex has officially been released and it's absolutely stunning! This is a perfect Godzilla short film featuring some incredible kaiju action. Gemstone has done something remarkable here.

What Shin Godzilla, Shin Ultraman, and [presumably] Shin Kamen Rider do so well is bring each of their titular characters back to basics after decades of media that's followed, while also adding a new spin to them. Anno and Higuchi know how to faithfully adapt these cinema icons.
