Ahaha it started as a warmup doodle fanart of Montero and just turned into thirsty dark angel pin up. Today's doodle.
Hi #VisibleWomen I'm a Filipino comic artist who specializes in stories about cool kids and teens from a multicultural perspective, and it just so happens I am sorta free for new projects! I rly want a fantasy story featuring snarky teens or tweens in a fantasy setting.
An author who shall not be named (unless she whises) shared a graphic novel pitch with me and I really, really wanted to draw it! Alas, not meant to be. But I still like the character designs I made for it! Demons, Golems, angst, paranormal romance, all that good stuff.
And just to compare, here's some Jayananda character art from 2004 vs 2019. A kind of now vs then.
Haven't seen Raya, but maybe it'll inspire me to pick up my Southeast-Asia-inspired fantasy from 2005, Jayananda, again. But I don't know if, as a city-bred Filipino culturally divorced from a lot of 'traditional' Southeast Asian culture, this counts as cultural appropriation?
@Jaymajaym @charlenedraws I'm down for a kidlit comics artshare! I'm a #kidlitcartoonist , middlegrade to YA! I've done some short stories and graphic novels, most recently for Difference Engine and The Project Insider Anthology. I'd love to connect with others too.
When I was in high school in Jakarta, I used to barter for my classmate's lunch: wheat bread sammiches with emmental, mayo, and alfalfa sprouts. Otherwise I'd subsist on tomato-flavored instant cup noodles, because I was hoarding my lunch money for comics.
No time for a full Avatar OC doodle warmup sketch so it's just rough sketches for now. Deadlines, deadlines!
here's a quick glimpse of some of the characters of The Makers Club volume 1. inks by me, story and colors by @reimenayee, about four middle school kids who balance school life, creativity, and forming a Makers Club~
...and keeping the sketch thread going, I guess! Adding the doodles that I missed. These threads are all over the place, like squid tentacles. but I hope they're somehow cohesive! They're my morning doodles, warmups to get ready for drawing. This is fanart of @HKBuena
