heading the day off with some grass of parnassus for breakfast 🐟💪♥️
bought this @tessabrunton book immediately just on seeing the expression on the cover, thinking 'that's exactly it, that's the face (on a good day)'
with tight books that you can't open, usually i worry about them falling apart, but with this english edition hardcover of journey of shuna i'm ready to completely destroy the binding if i have to, i don't care (i had the same attitude to the japanese pocket softcover edition)
hey, new picture! variant for TWD issue 50, out in november.
if you're going through the book for the first time, some hints of things to come; and if you're revisiting, i put in about a hundred details and connections for you
anyhow, a view into modes of drawing almost opposite from what i would do now, but it was a fun laboratory doing 200 of them, even if i was too dumb to learn as much as i could
the really early ones, first dozen or so, were painted-- which was a bad idea on half a day deadline, and without the color profile for the newspaper. they printed horiffically. but at least the painting quality was improving by leaps and bounds in the span of ~five weeks
sometimes i'd try other mediums than ink, to varying results. the first two here almost sorta get at that briggs line, but by next week i dropped that avenue entirely. before that i tried charcoal
more time travel-- starting in 2007 i did these every week for four years for the newspaper
i think any color stuff i have is at the studio, but a few color bits here https://t.co/0yB75uu370
