Compositionally, the idea here was to present a scene without any horizontals or verticals. Using a jumble of angles conveys a sense of chaotic energy.

It doesn’t have any deep underlying thought behind it. This was just me having fun with color and movement, an expression of my enjoyment of fantasy, specifically in the realm of swords and sorcery.
The area under the gate was originally left blank for the title lettering. Roland on his horse was added later when we began offering this as a print.
