I took a paintbrush with me to the doctor so the cast could be molded around my hand. That way I could still paint large areas with that hand.
Then I relearned how to paint with my left hand. Although I'm not ambidextrous, I had done some left-handed work before and managed.

When the cast came off, the tremendous sense of freedom prompted me to use sweeping motions and bright colors.

When I took on the task of illustrating the last book of The Dark Tower, this was the first painting I did.
Dedicated readers will recognize hidden messages in the trees which are described by King in the story.

The paint for this came from a leftover palette. Most of the earth tones had dried up but the blues, turquoises, and greens looked okay.

The latter is my main reason for taking a 'portraiture' approach to these covers. In this case, I chose Chronos with his major attributes: his hourglass and cape.
