This image is from Lusus Poeticus Poetis, a book of poetry by 17thC poet Edward Bendlowes. Born to a wealthy Catholic family, Bendlowes made a name for himself as an arts patron & poet. He drew on his resources to commission engravings (like this one) illustrating his poems.

Stipple engraving uses dots of various sizes to create tone in an intaglio print.
