I like how easily Affinity Photo exports layers via their slice tool. It doesn't suffer from the fury-inducing one pixel of alpha-smudged image border when you resize (the way layers do in Photoshop) either.

Another example of the Mesh Texture and Mesh pattern tool used on Suzanne. There are 6 pattern modes in the pattern tool. once the pattern is created its easy to model it into any complex shape your want.

Another test with Blender and it's grease pencil tool. Very generic shapes and movement, but it's all in figuring out what Blender can do. Other than the motions, it will also let you draw new shapes on the fly without compromising the motion, which I still have to test really.
