Govard Bidloo (1649-1713) was a Dutch Golden Age #physician, anatomist, poet and playwright. In 1685 he published an anatomical atlas illustrated with 105 plates by Gerard de Lairesse, showing the human figure both in living attitudes and as dissected cadavers.

Edinburgh anatomist Andrew Fyfe was b. #OTD 1752. Fyfe was also an exceptional illustrator and these plates are from 'Anatomy of the Human Body' published 1814. He was, however, described by Sir Astley Cooper as “a horrid lecturer”

Italian anatomist Giovanni Morgagni (1682-1771) published ‘the seats and causes of disease investigated by anatomy in 5 books’ in 1761. It correlated antemortem symptoms with postmortem findings in around 700 cases, a critical turning point in our understanding of disease.
Jean-Baptiste Marc Bourgery (1797-1849) was a #french #physician and #anatomist. Within 20 years, along with the artist Nicolas Henri Jacob, he created the comprehensive #anatomy textbook "Traité complet de l’#anatomie de l’#homme".
