I just took an exam on optics,I was asked to write down two kinds of diffraction, I just remembered Fresnel diffraction and forgot fraunhofer diffraction. And finally I wrote hiroshi diffraction.😢😢😢

Whenever waves encounter an opening (an aperture), they will constructively and destructively interfere with one another, in a process called diffraction. We can model this for different types of apertures.

Do you know the effect called cloud iridescence or irisation?

When parts of clouds are thin & have similar size droplets, it happens diffraction can make them shine with colours like a corona.
In fact, the colours are essentially corona fragments.

Why does a cloudy moon sometimes appear colorful? The effect, called a lunar corona, is created by the quantum mechanical diffraction of light around individual, similarly-sized water droplets in an intervening but mostly-transparent cloud https://t.co/B94yTsbIeV

Why do stars in space photos have spikes on them? Turns out it's actually because of quantum mechanics! These are diffraction spikes, due to the way light interferes with itself when it passes by the little metal struts that hold the telescope's secondary mirror in place.

i wanna get better at drawing diffraction spikes.

Grant: Zapping Martian minerals with X-rays resulted in diffraction patterns that suggested the presence of clays, which in turn implies the presence of water. And if there was water...then perhaps there was life?

You may have heard of Rosalind Franklin, a pioneer of the study of molecular structures. Her X-ray diffraction images of DNA enabled the University of Cambridge’s Francis Crick and James Watson to identify the molecule’s double helix structure. RT to clap for Rosalind!
