Edward Jenner FLS, creator of the world’s first vaccine, was born #OTD in 1749. His invention of a vaccine for smallpox saved countless lives. He was elected a Fellow of the @LinneanSociety in 1798 on the strength of his zoological work, especially the nesting habits of cuckoos.
#OTD in 1796, Dr Edward Jenner administered a vaccination against smallpox.

Jenner's pioneering work saved millions of lives.
