I suspect this exact place! Close to the Ferry House and "adjoining the roads to Hawkshead and Ambleside", although description could also mean further north on any of the other spots with adjoining roads. She was told about it, she didn't walk there so.... could be anywhere.

A small sketch trying to capture the clump of trees on the rocky outcrop in the meadow below the road north out of Ambleside. I think it might be called Lesketh How, but I’m not sure

English 18C landscape artist Francis Towne failed 11 times to get elected to the Royal Academy / forgotten for more than 100 years / now ultra-fashionable. These watercolours remind me, oddly, of Japanese woodblock prints ~ Ambleside ■ Tarpeian Rock, Rome ■ Tivoli (1780s)

Seeing we are all indoors, how about a 'virtual drive' courtesy of local artist Graham Twyford. Let's start in at the Saturday market, head onto for a cuppa, onto (stopping to visit us!) and finish by pier! Fancy joining?
