For those interested the last image is a detail from one of two stunning frescoes from showing stages of a religious ritual dedicated to Isis. The god is symbolised by water in a golden vase. from The other fresco also has some lovely ibises lurking around the altar.

His most famous painting of Pompeii is ‘An Exedra’ (1869) set at the schola (bench) tomb of the priestess Mammia near the Herculaneum Gate.
