The sketch and final engraving for the execution of Lady Jane Grey by French artist Achille Deveria. Unfortunately he got it wrong Jane was not executed with a sword but an axe.

George Vertue's original drawing of the portrait. Vertue writes upon seeing the original in his notebook:
"A picture of Lady Jane Grey that was beheaded an undoubted original left by will in the family."

1554. The execution of Lady Jane Grey & Lord Guildford Dudley had originally been set for 9th Feb. A three day reprieve was granted by Queen Mary in the hope of saving Jane's immortal soul.

The Norris portrait pattern is so confusing! It's been engraved as: Jane Shore, Lady Jane Grey, Francoise de Fox and now I have just found Mary Queen of Scots! Doubt we will ever find the actual painting.

Evening of 9th July 1553. A 'great banquet' was held in honour of the new Queen Jane.

Jane was also probably briefed and prepared for the following days events.
