Day 22:
Who doesn't love a masked ball! These early 20th Century masks are thought to have been worn to a ball at Nostell Priory. They are (in clockwise order) The Motorist, A Court Beauty, Kathleen Mavourneen and A Fair Motorist.

This was to the Holte family for nearly 200 years!

It was later leased by James Watt Jr. who spent most of his time in the 'back rooms', using the west side of the house as the main entrance instead of the east.

- Transport. We're often asked how we managed to get the Tivvy Bumper in our Transport Gallery.. the answer of course is that we built the building around it! Here it is en route in 1978 and after installation in 1979. The engine remains probably our best loved exhibit.

Day 20 It is always where our specimens come from! Many use bioluminescence. On the underside of this Hatchet fish you can see the light organs which hide it from predators, while the eyes point up to look for prey.
