I have created two related projects for crowdsourced transcription of data that together constitute the Monterey Bay Historical Plankton Project. We have 14 years of weekly phytoplankton samples, and 9 years of weekly zooplankton samples, all collected at 6 stations in the bay.
Microbe communities are small and complex but the recent findings from #Columbia University are interesting.

Happy #PhytochemicalFriday! Rotenone - an isoflavone highly toxic to fish and insects - is found in some plants in the bean family, including jicama (Pachyrhizus erosus). Historically, such plants were crushed and put in ponds, compelling fish to the surface for easy capture.
