Loch Ness Monster

Knowing that Nessie is described as a plesiosaur-type creature, I really wanted to make it look OLD. Added all sorts of barnacles, seaweed, and coral that would grow on it over time.

This is one of those instances where you can add extraoral tissue to plesiosaurs. There is no reason why this and several other did not have “lips”.

Did you know that ichthyosaurs & plesiosaurs have differently shaped vertebrae because they swam in different ways? They’re different because ichthyosaurs swam by moving their tails from side to side. Plesiosaurs used flippers to swim, so did not need vertebrae the same shape.

Plesiosaurs were long-necked marine reptiles that disappeared alongside the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous period. This Jurassic Plesiosaur flipper is 150-155 million years old! The flipper would have helped our creature to practically 'fly' through the water.
