Thank you for this! I haven't drawn emote commissions in a little while, so my style changes a bit, and my outlines improved (can see more recent work on my twitter) but here are some of the old examples.

Time for a new look! Trying out colored outlines for the first time in forever

Colored an old piece :o well, part of an old piece...

art's still dead, but I feel like coloring? So if I find some outlines that still look kinda decent, I might go over em w/ color.

My art is ALOT neater now UwU

credit to who (I think it was her) that did the outlines of the other pic of me, and my pfp UwU, I usually do my own drawings, but the outline was just SO GOOD I wanted to colour it in!

[ Day 1 ]
Today was mockup day!
For the longest time I've wanted to explore new styles, so it's a new palette (for future coding purpose), thick outlines, and bigger sprites than I'm used to, and some environment reference research & tests.
Lots of fun so far!

But in actually trying to make a black and white version for other uses, we decided that including outlines was a much stronger look for the character, and worked much better at smaller sizes too. So at the very last minute, we veered down the road to what we have now:

This went all the way through to a full colour version that didn't use any outlines and almost made it as the final version:

“Your safety is my primary concern.” My girl Orisa! I wanted to test out brown outlines and I really like it! I also had fun with her eyes/expressions. God she’s so cute! 😩💞

Those smooth outlines

People clowning the cover but it's actually very true to the 90s trend.

90s introduced to the design scene bold colours, thick outlines, messy layout with lots of elements & play on existing pop culture references/characters.

The album cover is actually really good..

I think I'm happy with the colors, debating whether I should add outlines to accent some places 🤔

Living for the richness of Ernest & Celestene and Le grand méchant renard. Having the characters be that appealing from every angle while breaking the outlines is remarkable and oh so charming

Collab I did with Puffappo over at Instagram! She did the drawing(outlines) while I did the shading and backgroun! :D

I just can't decide about the Outlines :/

What do you guys think?

Personally I find it really helpful to treat it like shading in color. Draw outlines with color, and then round out the forms in gradients, them start to mix them if you want smoother, with fewer brush strokes showing. That's kind of how I did it in this painting.

The name Brocade pointed me in the direction of textiles, and I found several comparisons for the pattern in the V&A collection, such as this c. 1880 woven brocade from
Varanasi, India.
Note the variegated background and the bold outlines of the motifs.
