Thangka Art of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha

Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha is one of the four principal boddhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism. Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha took a great vow to guide all living beings from the hell & denied to achieve Buddhahood until all hells are emptied.

new post : MONJU BOSATSU
Also known as Manjusri, he is the Bosatsu of wisdom, the voice of Buddhist Law and the patrons of calligraphers. He's usually depicted as a youthful man with three to five chignons, holding a sword and lotus and rides a blue lion (shishi)

Tengu are wrathful, tengu are wise: these Buddhist-infused yōkai are the bird-men of the mountains, sometimes appearing as long-nosed men, others as full raptors. They can curse families for generations or offer enlightenment-granting wisdom.

In Japan, the Buddhist belief prevails, where it is known as the flower that guides the dead to samsara, the cycle of birth, life, death and incarnation.

Here’s a reproduced art I made that depicts a mystical Buddhist bird (karyōbinga in Japanese; kalavinca in Sanskrit) characterized by a bird's body and a human head.

Originally a woodblock print by Katsushika Hokusai.

Moving ahead in the story... Hana throws a particular item! This of course a 木魚 (wooden fish), which Takei has adopted into his mask for photoshoots and self portraits. The photo below is the one from his hometown. These can be found in Buddhist temples in Japan.

Good afternyan! My for today is 寺, temple!

It's primarily used for Shinto-Buddhist temples, and you can see it in the kanji - it has a layered roof and a big ornate entrance. Associations like this make it much easier to remember a kanji. ^_^

Although its origins are debated, the festival celebrates the enshrinement of the god Matarajin at Kōryū-ji.

Introduced from China by Ennin (慈覺大師 793-864), Matarajin (摩多羅神) was popular with the Tendai sect and considered a guardian of Buddhism and a 'god of destiny'.

I love how at a glance it looks like the windshield is covered in car registration stickers, but when you look closely they're actually protective paper talisman, probably of Buddhist, Daoist or Onmyodou origin!

#art
