As most of us already know flowers last very much longer if you have stamped on their stems, stripped them of their leaves and plunged them into boiling water. Detailed instructions are given by Mrs Spry as to which flowers respond best to this medieval-sounding treatment.

This weekend it got over 106°F/41°C. Pretty hot. A local friend of mine really wanted to go swimming, but all of our rivers are filling with ice cold mountain water. To cold for me.
