Great C64 Moments – Way of the Exploding Fist

Fist floored me like a flying kick to the head the first time I saw it. The bone-crunching SFX, the superb graphics, & the intense, one-on-one combat gameplay was like nothing I'd seen before on a home computer. Truly magnificent

Ultima V was an interesting case: the games fast-load only works on NTSC machines so, on PAL C64's it loaded *slow*. 😐 Injecting the Action Replay fast-load made things *so* much quicker. But there was a conflict with the dungeon sections, and it would load battles wrong. 😭

I still had my C64 when a friend bought himself an Amiga 2000. The first two games I saw on it were Outrun, and F/A-18 Interceptor. I was blown away.

From myself at IndieRetroNews, thank you for creating such amazing games for our home computers and consoles. So many fantastic games this year, I just couldn't list them all!

Some C64 games got a speed boost when running on a C128 in C64 mode. Most important to me were Microprose's best flight sim's: Gunship and Project Stealth Fighter. They ran at 2MHz when in the border area, getting around 20% speed boost. Also Test Drive II, which I didn't try.

I love Double Dragon and Operation Wolf.
I spent a good bit of money on those two.
Fortunately we got pretty good versions of Operation Wolf for the C64 and Amiga.. though I'd love it even more with a proper light gun. 😁

Necronom was a decent R-Type style shooter by Linel on the Amiga, but was also planned for conversion to the C64 by Pantheon Development in 1990. GTW managed to recover some art assets several years ago, but how far exactly did the canned conversion get?
