The Austrian botanical artist Ferdinand Lukas Bauer was born in 1760. The RHS Lindley Library holds some beautiful watercolour foxgloves by Bauer, which were published in John Lindley’s ‘Digitalium Monographia’ (1821).

Pierre-Joseph Redouté ( 1759 – 1840 ) was a painter and botanist from Belgium. He was nicknamed "the Raphael of flowers" and has been called the greatest botanical illustrator of all time

The primrose is taking shape in its surroundings. I've photographed soil and walls to get the character right. I'm making the limestone, moss, grass and any of the setting up using the photographs as a kind of loose reference.
