Color Balance is pretty intuitive; red/cyan, green/magenta, and blue/yellow are set up as complimentary colors, and the three categories at the bottom decide what values you'll affect. You can use all three, and they don't overwrite each other.

roughly mapping out where i use and extend certain values. contrast is important for defining shapes! play around with hard edges and cast shadows to keep it interesting.
