I wanted to make a sona based on an ankylosaurus, so i made this clubtail species. idk what to call them sdjfdf
#Sauropelta, which lived about 115 million years ago, is a genus of well-known ankylosaurs because their fossils are well preserved, including intact skeletal fossils and many scales preserved in situ. #pnso #dinosaur

Today's #FossilFriday is about dino combat. @VictoriaArbour et al published a paper this week suggesting ankylosaur club-tails were used in intraspecies fights. Damaged armour on #Zuul (red below) has been proposed as injuries from the club of another Zuul based on placement!
Ankylosaurs are tough to paint because their osteoderms have unique arrangements - for Zuul, every osteoderm was preserved in place, so there's no room for error!
I sculpted a 3D model based on this phenomenal illustration by @MesozoicMuse so I could draw Zuul from any angle
@CyanInkling Yes yes! His tail is like a cross between a stegosaurus and ankylosaurus

#Scolosaurus was an armored dinosaur native to #Canada and the Northwest #USA roughly 76 million years ago. Reaching roughly 6 meters long, this club-tailed ankylosaur ate low-lying vegetation like ferns and horsetails.

late Day 15 of #PRDinovember2022 Jakapil - Burrowing
I didn't illustrate it burrowing because it doesn't show any adaptations for burrowing imo, i did however reconstruct it as a derived parankylosaurian however.
@Rattel_M_Bones OF COURSE MY LIEGE.
zyg would be a scolosaurus or some other medium sized ankylosaur because they're probably the most grumpy, stubborn dinosaurs i can think of.
contrastingly, fex would be a sauronitholestes, a small dromaeosaur from the same formation.

Is he enjoying it? I…. don’t know…
