Recycling. A small oil on copper depicting Simeon's Song of Praise is a mirror image of Rembrandt's own depiction of the subject on panel in the same year, 1631. The pupil's painting was painted over an Annunciation c1610, possibly by Brussels painter Hendrick de Clerck.

Which brings us full circle (I think?). I still don't know why/where the Mead painting was made nor by/for whom, but I can say that through some twist of fate, a London collector came to acquire it, & for some amount of time it lived with Rembrandt's drawing of a Mughal noble.

Just messing here , doing Rembrandt's self portrait but in watercolour...lesson here is the more you try to get a likeness the more tighter your painting..I even put an highlight in where in his painting there wasn't one, I could carry more but the tighter it will become.
