主にニューサウスウェールズ州やクイーンズランド州の湖沼に生息する。
呼称は本来ある特定の地方で言われていた語で、
この語で言われる事例が新聞に乗り、
オーストラリアに棲む水怪を指す共通語となっている。

After over 15 years I finally found the white whale of my childhood memories. There's this French Canadian cartoon called Mona the Vampire I watched in Montreal as a kid. And this creature, the Billabong Bunyip, gave me *so* many nightmares.

Honestly, it *is* freaky looking.
