Morocco's Muhammad al-Idrisi (1100 – 1165), a Geographer, Cartographer and Egyptologist created the Tabula Rogeriana, one of the most advanced medieval world maps.

It was used by Christopher Columbus and Vasco Da Gama for their voyages. He lived in Palermo, Sicily (Italy).
