For my #SundayFishSketch contribution, here are species of butteflyfishes from the genus Prognathodes. I made this using Microsoft paint. See if you can ID them all!
I found some motivation today to start painting a boarfish... that I did the line work on...months ago. Didn't finish, but I'm slow. I'm learning something new! #ichthyology #sciart #SundayFishSketch
Fishes rep the colorful side of nature for sure! This a throwback to before I joined twitter: Rhinecanthus aculeatus adult & juvenile duo #teamfish #SundayFishSketch #sciart https://t.co/OrqOfBnZf7
#SundayFishSketch #fishytheme - colorful fish. A Red Roman- fish from South Africa commonly caught by commercial line fishers.
Unfortunately I missed last week but I'm back for #SundayFishSketch
I've seen a lot of teleosts, but elasmobranchs can be colourful too. Under the right light conditions the blue-spot ray's blue patches are almost hypnotic. I love them.
Time for another #SundayFishSketch , this time for #mermay2020 - I was inspired by the three Janets of #thegoodplace
When I moved, I left my reef tank and Lightning Maroon Clownfish temporarily in the care of my family. Apparently my fish has finally grown up enough to be territorial which includes a taste for biting fingers.
#SundayFishSketch
For today’s #mermay themed #SundayFishSketch, I did a reverse mermaid Bluefin tuna!
I’m calling it “Bluefin Booty” 😂😂
The freshwater Alligator Mermaid is an effective and GARgantuan ambushed predator, lurking in warm shallow water. This #mermay themed #SundayFishSketch was fun, can't wait to look at your creations!
Argh, nearly missed #SundayFishSketch on Wednesday!
So many great memories from my days working at @BluePlanetUK but the beautiful #epauletteshark will always remain a favorite of mine.
Midweek #SundayFishSketch - museum/aquarium edition.
Redtail catfish (Phractocephalus hemioliopterus), a river giant I remembering seeing in the River Journey Exhibit at @TNAquarium
It’s been ages since I last visited Museu Geológico de Lisboa @LNEG_PT but I’m quite sure there’s some Propterus fossils on their collection. This Jurassic fish was related to gars and bowfins #sciart #paleoart #SundayFishSketch #fish
The giant #Onchopristis (Sclerorhynchidae) wasn't just a scaled-up version of a modern sawfish (Pristidae). It's also pretty unlikely that it was as boldly patterned as I made it here, but it was fun. #SundayFishSketch #PaleoArt #SciArt
I've just discovered that #SundayFishSketch is a thing. I'm not one to pass up on a hashtag fad, even if it is with an extinct species. This is how I made use of my lay-in in morning.
A school of Rosyface Shiners (Notropis rubellus) to celebrate all the 2020 graduates @TonganoxieHigh and across the globe. At the western limits of their range, these fish inhabit clear upland streams across the eastern third of #Kansas #SundayFishSketch
For this week #SundayFishSketch with "fish that are schooling" #fishytheme I present you the Lake Whitefish. During the fall, whitefish are forming impressive spawning run, which are often exploited as traditionnal fishing activities #scicomm
@TaraLynC @SolomonRDavid I'm Olivier, ecologist studying fish ecology, otolith chemistry and aquatic invasive species. I draw freshwater fish in hope to raise awareness. #SundayFishSketch #scicomm
Epinephelus fasciatus (black-tipped #cod). Inhabits coral reefs and rocky bottoms to 100 m depth; distinguished by reddish bars and narrow black border on front part of dorsal fin; found throughout the region; Indo - C. Pacific: to 40 cm. #fishart #sciart #SundayFishSketch
Midweek #SundayFishSketch: Hydrolagus trolli was named after illustrator Ray Troll. Not the typical pop icon but his illustrations rock! #scicomm #sciart #fish
