The discovery of the MLD 18 mandible in 1953 followed the sorting and movement of more than 5000 tons of miners' dump material. The fossil comes from one of the older adult individuals known for Australopithecus africanus.

I am the artist that created all the graphics. I worked with top paleontologists to help make each graphic. I scanned actual field notes for the background of Tennessee Panda art. Per scientist suggestion, used Asian elephant as the base for NY Mastodon.
