The femur and tibia from locality 129 were the first clear evidence of bipedal fossils from Hadar, Ethiopia, in 1973. The strong lateral angulation of the femur shaft is a distinctive aspect of bipedal locomotion in humans and our fossil relatives.

Happy The earliest fossils of Ursus americanus are from the early Pleistocene (Irvingtonian). Researchers think they arrived in North America during a dispersal event from Eurasia. By the late Pleistocene (Rancholabrean) they were widespread.

One of the most recent revelations from the Utah Wheeler Shale is a new opabiniid yet to be named. This creature is remarkable as it's the first of its kind found outside of the Burgess Shale.

It’s the “Mother of Paleontology,” Mary Anning’s, birthday! Born in 1799, she hailed from Dorset, England, & grew up collecting fossils. A few of her many accomplishments include unearthing one of the first ichthyosaurs & discovering Dimorphodon & Plesiosaurus!

Bogbash is a good bot, but he has a dark secret: he's not the only one inhabiting his body. He enjoys collecting fossils and reading.

I study palaeontology with focus on Pterosaur Evolution. Did SRS XRF chemical mapping on Eocenic Bird fossils for my masters. Also, I work as science consultant for PaleoPines and as an illustrator for 252MYA studio.

CRAB WEEK CONTINUES
Mermay Day 16 - Horseshoe Crab!
Living fossils, these ancient arthropods like to scuttle around the intertidal zone of shallow waters. A stray breaker may flip them over - be kind and pick it up by the edge of the shell to set it right again.
