Oh, and here are some examples of the previously mentioned artists' work:
(Akira Toriyama, Naoko Takeuchi, Katsuhiro Otomo, Natsume Ono.)

After bouncing back and forth between strictly cartoon and typical manga-esque styles, I eventually landed with the one I'm happily with now. My main influences have all been manga artists: Akira Toriyama, Naoko Takeuchi, Katsuhiro Otomo, and Natsume Ono being the biggest.

It's been long since I last worked on my Akira Toriyama tributes, so I felt like posting my last piece again.

Today in the Nearly Complete Works of Toriyama: Turns out Toriyama's done so damn many Dragon Quest illustrations over the years that they finally put them all together in a big book and forced him to draw yet another illustration for the cover.

LRT:
For the non DB fans out there, y'all can thank Nakatsuru for the character designs in the Digmon anime from Adventure to Frontier. You can see Toriyama's influence.
Without knowing it at the time he had a major impact on my art growing up, and even a little to this day.

Today in the Nearly Complete Works of Toriyama: his design for the "Junk Geezer" (ガラクタじじい) used in a 1991 Weekly Jump commercial. In the commercial the Junk Geezer is portrayed by actor Shigeru Izumiya in special makeup, and is pink rather than metallic grey as seen here.
