I improved the resolution/detail in the PCE image converter (which has a small side effect of better pixel distribution in the dither). Definitely helps with small detailed patterns and hair. Left is the new process, right is the old:

Here is what I'm looking out for when comparing PC-88 and PC-98 styles:
1. Line width (1 wide 2 high pixels vs square pixel) - this affects dithering too
2. Bit depth (9bit - 8 colours on screen vs 12bit - 16 colours on screen)
Examples: Wingman (PC88) and Princess Maker (PC98)
