Shaun Southern was the master of the C64 racer & his 4th game on the list (!) is another absolute beauty. Slick presentation, great graphics, an ace track editor and brilliant gameplay. All for under £3?! Shut up!
@JudgeDrokk @CommodoreBlog @C64Retweets @RetroGamer_Mag Ah I always did love that cover art! 😍👍🖍️🎨😊

Geoff Crammond’s 2nd entry on the list is an original & technically astounding game. Whizzing around rollercoaster tracks performing outrageous jumps & causing spectacular crashes is as much fun as it sounds. Superb
I always love making non-black background #PETSCII pieces.
I find it's especially effective if you use a black border and some black characters in the piece, creating the illusion that black has been used the background colour! :)

@C64Reloaded Trailblazer is technically very impressive.
You had to put in a lot of time, get good at memorizing the courses, and have a responsive joystick. (Though, thinking about that a little more, I think I've just described half of the C64's games.) 😋
@Nerdweltenpod I've been loading a lot of them virtually this year.
🤓 (Thanks to the C64 Ultimate Tape Archive on archive dot org.) 😄
@KariLawler Props to Dragon Ninja and Combat School for being very good arcade conversions. Also Star Wars, which was better than it deserved to be, considering how unsuited the C64 was to doing it. Rambo: First Blood Part II was one I'd load to listen to the excellent Galway music. 😋
@KariLawler Since I had a C64 for, basically, all my teenage years.. I think I've played all of them except Run the Gauntlet. 😋
Green Beret, Wizball, Platoon, and IK+ would have to be my favourites. 👍
@8bit_era With a lot of Speccy stuff the art-style ends up kinda like colourised monochrome. 🤔 But the nice thing with the Speccy was that dithering effects were clear on the TV's of the day. With the C64, alternating on/off high-res pixels often made for strange moiré/colour effects. 🤓
@8bit_era Yeah, the C64 is a much more muted palette. And you've always got those three shades of grey to fall back on for lots of luminance levels. (and orange/red/brown/green pairs for shading too.)
Then you go Speccy and it's all bright and vibrant.
(Which isn't bad. Just different.)

Smashing & jumping your way around the track & racing mates & the CPU to the finish line in this quasi-3D Super Sprint / Racing Destruction Set mash-up is fantastic fun. Still plays superbly.

Revs is a serious racing car simulator that requires time & practice before you reap the rewards. Brilliantly presented, and with excellent 3D graphics and engrossing & highly compulsive gameplay, it’s a terrific racer.

This sequel has better graphics, more varied courses, & superb presentation (including ace slo-mo action replays), but the best thing about it is the simultaneous 4 player gameplay. Fantastic fun.
