3. Drakengard (PS2) by Yoko Taro. The gameplay is terrible and at the beginning looks a bad copy of fantasy games. But then, everything you know get washed away. Crazy and really mature plot, with dark main characters including a children cannibal.
This story was written with the intention of being a gay romance. Whilst in some ways it IS the plot, in other ways it doesn't matter all that much. This isn't a perfectly accepting world, but the pirates don't care. They dislike the main characters for other reasons. #LGBTWIP D4

Finally, episode 7 to 10 kick in with the long-promised overarching plot, and finally the show figures out what it is. I had a great time with these.
(The only issue being a 'mysterious family heritage' plot device that's used and unresolved for TWO DIFFERENT CHARACTERS.)
