It's mostly thought of as a medium to large tree, based on the leaf-beds in the Gristhorpe plant beds. However I suspect there may have been some variation within the genus (if it does represent a biological genus). I've reconstructed the Crato specimen as a small tree.

Because this fish is rather obscure and there's only a handful fossils to look for reconstructing, I used its close relative the Strunius and Qingmenodus as reference and also use extant Hoplias sp. as other reference, that gave me 2 version of the Onychodus as illustrated below

My first-ever palaeoart illustration appeared in paper today! The paper by V. Baranov looked at Gedanoleria fly larvae locked in Baltic amber. Here is my reconstruction of the flies, maggots and things they fed on.

I can call myself a "professional" palaeoartist now.
