Good evening, Pierre & thank you, that is most kind. Sadly, we never saw Wilko Johnson in concert but his playing style & ability were legendary. Here's a black & white photo of another version of "Canvey Island" by Walter Steggles which most likely dates from 1931. https://t.co/wUwfqNLnVE

Good evening Peter & thank you for your recommendation of this ELG feed to too. Walter Steggles painted at least 4 versions of "Canvey Island": that one is the only version that is known to have survived. Here's a photo of another version from 1931. https://t.co/kZhVcasfc4

Good afternoon, Sandra & thank you, somewhat belatedly on my part, I'm afraid. Walter Steggles painted at least four versions of "Canvey Island" & that one is currently the only known survivor. We do, however, have this black & white photo of another version.#ELG https://t.co/9qYowfH0gN

Ah yes, Suzanne: one can but hope. This black & white photo of the 1935 version of "Canvey Island" by Walter Steggles was bought from exhibition by the Earl of Sandwich according to Wally's annotation on the reverse. I have been in touch with his grandson but he didn't know of it

My pleasure, John. Walter Steggles painted at least four versions of Canvey Island, only one of which is still known to exist & that is the one that you would have seen back in 2017. This black & white photo is of one of the other versions of "Canvey Island"

Good morning & thank you, very belatedly on my part, I'm afraid. Walter Steggles painted at least four versions of "Canvey Island" during the 1930s: here's a black & white photo of one of them, which was bought from exhibition by the Earl of Sandwich in 1931. https://t.co/l3nZToFSnh

I've always loved the idea of using disused Brownfield sites for nature, ever since Natural England got me to do an idealised landscape of the concept years ago. It's a good article, and well done on Canvey island, what a great use of space!

Good afternoon & thank you. Walter Steggles exhibited at least four paintings with the same title of "Canvey Island" during his time with the Group. Here's a black & white photo of one of them by him which I think may date from 1932.
