Leicester Wall-painting from 2ndC house close to the basilica, depicting fantasy architecture with decorative motifs.
Finds like this are exceptional in Britain but were probably typical of well-to-do town houses in major towns in #RomanBritain #Archaeology #FindsFriday #History

This week's #findsfriday is a cast lead #Viking probable gaming piece https://t.co/L49vxyGwkc 800-1000. It's thought that hollow examples were gaming pieces as it allowed them to be stacked and it may have been used in the board game of Hnefatafl @findsorguk LIN-C587F9
For #FindsFriday - in 2014 we uncovered the post-hole remains of an aisled building, but what was more exciting is that one post had been padded with (what turned out to be) some of the only examples of moulded architectural timber known from #RomanBritain. 1/2

Smaller than a fingernail, #Roman intaglios were a popular form of identification and fashion. This example, set in a silver ring, was discovered at Balkerne Gate and shows a man with a laurel wreath around his head. Who it's meant to represent remains a mystery... #FindsFriday

Made a little doodle of my favorite artefact, the Dunaverney Flesh-hook😍
Here’s a great open-access paper that captured my imagination when I first read it years ago and really made me appreciate this beautiful object:

A very recent Treasure acquisition by @WBerksMuseum for #FindsFriday. It is most likely a gold Roman earring rather than a pendant, which would have been applied with wire and has a setting for a gem.

The level of anatomical realism is simply 🤩🤩

Objects made in #Roman Britain from Kimmeridge shale don't always survive that well, so this hand-carved 3rd / 4th century tray (or furniture panel) found in Askerswell, now in @DorsetMuseum, is simply 🤩🤩
