Two jawbones of Australopithecus sediba differ in several ways. Could they actually be two species? show that both an earlier species and our own genus, Homo, vary in much the same way. https://t.co/DFQGg2uVGn

shoutout to australopithecus africanus and 'prometheus' for skirting around paranthropus and kenyanthropus

and a special thanks to a. sediba for doing a pro gamer move into the homo hypodigm

in 1973 the first Australopithecus afarensis fossils (AL 128 & AL 129; age 3.3 million-year-old) were found by Donald Johanson and his team in Hadar, Ethiopia. Its functional morphology was interpreted as evidence of adaptations to bipedalism.

MRD-VP-1/1 was the first relatively complete skull known for Australopithecus anamensis. Its similarities with later species like Au. africanus and Paranthropus may suggest that such traits evolved in the common ancestor of all bipedal hominins.

Renewed survey at fossil sites sometimes turns up additional fragments of earlier discoveries. The LH 5 fragmentary maxilla and dentition of Australopithecus afarensis has parts that were discovered in 1974 and 1979, up to 49 meters apart.

With the "Australopithecus Mind Meld" course, you will learn:

How to sit on ice, chant bullshit, and hold breath
How to quote mistranslated platitudes from books you've never read
How to make up a fad diet that nerds will endorse
How to chomp on lamb testicles attached to lamb

3 55

The most complete skeleton attributed to Australopithecus afarensis is the young child from Dikika, Ethopia. This had a hyoid bone similar to chimpanzees and gorillas, suggesting apelike vocal communication.

24 92

The variability of the fossils from Hadar, Ethiopia, has long been attributed to sexual dimorphism and temporal trends within Australopithecus afarensis. The recent discovery of other species at nearby sites may require re-evaluation of this idea.

Cuz prehistoric monkeys want to be beautiful too.
