Maybe 525 million years ago or earlier.
This art comes from a quite different part of the human brain than the brachiopod's cartoons ... but both are valid interpretations of the rare fossil evidence.

We are so excited to share our new logo! Designed by @FossilsH' Dr Jed Atkinson, it combines the iconic white rose of Yorkshire with common Carboniferous fossils of the Yorkshire Dales! The petals are productid brachiopods and the rose centre is a cross section through a coral.
#FossilFriday The Holotype of Hyolithes baconi from the Ordovician Trenton Fm. in Rock County, WI. Hyolitha is a particularly enigmatic group, but was recently classified as a lophophorate, making it closely related to brachiopods. Type Collection @ucmpberkeley
For #FossilFriday here's Haplophrentis carinatus from Stanley Glacier (#BurgessShale) with feeding tentacles preserved. This was a key #fossil that provided a link between #hyoliths and #brachiopods, and it may have a cameo in my upcoming NPGS talk...

Week 4 introduced edrioasteroids.
I always describe them as a combination of starfish and barnacles. They would attach to hard ground or brachiopods. The 5 point symmetry is obvious.
Here's the art that I contributed to the study. It was a pleasure to work on this strange little stem-brachiopod! https://t.co/KOQTbEUkiC
