Artists! I just recommended the works of George Bridgman and Burne Hogarth in regards to learning better anatomy and dynamism, based on my old school art school education.

Are we still doing this?

Are there other artists with instructional books you consider equal or better?

I've been doing a lot of Bridgman studies lately and thought it would be cool to do some hardsurface anatomy practice alongside

Good study sesh, I think proportions are alright for the most part except for the bottom half of the ribs. The 10th rib could've been constructed better but overall I can see an improvement with my gesture doing the bridgman studies

Working on George Bridgman homage. His brief explainer on the four masses of the head has helped me teach anatomy better.

Tomorrow I might post reviews of all the art theory books I've read this year

They were all very useful and I learned a lot from them, but I'd be lying if I said George B. Bridgman's anatomy books didn't have me feeling like this

George Bridgman described Gesture and rhythm like this:
Gesture was not invented. It has been the measured motion of the Universe since the beginning of time.

I learned Dragon Ball Z and Flame of Recca before learning fundamental anatomy. What anime does teach if you’re looking at it right is shape, volumes, and motion. Those are also essential in figure drawing. You can teach this next to Bridgman cuz he’s exaggerating anatomy

I spent a good chunk of yesterday re-reading the "Bridgman guide to drawing from life" to try and get a better grasp of structure.

Also wanted to work back towards a more water-color and pencil style.

What was supposed to be a quick anatomy study using the books I got for christmas (Bridgman's Life Drawing has a lot of suggestive stroke poses that I used as reference for this one, I added the arms and stylized the anatomy for my own fun), quickly became this.
