Memory of a wooded island in the Baltic Sea (Oak trees by the Sea) (1834-35) Carl Gustav Carus (German, 1789–1869). A man with a few strings to his bow - doctor of medicine, doctor of philosophy, professor of obstetrics, director of a maternity clinic - and wrote on art theory.
In #obstetrics, Leopold's maneuvers are a common and systematic way to determine the position of a #fetus inside the #woman's #uterus; they are named after the german #gynecologist Christian G. Leopold, who described them in 1894.
