I’ve always had a huge soft spot for “small” ornithischians so here’s a quick dryosaurus
Day 20 - Iguanodon
~ Large ornithischian dinosaur that inhabited Europe during the Early Cretaceous. Iguanodon were bulky herbivorous dinosaurs that had thumb spikes, these spikes would have been used for foraging and fighting off predators.

#Iguanodon
Day 18 - Camptosaurus
~ A mid-sized ornithischian dinosaur that inhabited North America and possibly Europe during the Late Jurassic. Camptosaurus would have been the common prey source for Allosaurus, probably adapted for sprinting to try to outrun potential threats.

New research suggests that ornithischian forelimbs evolved differently to become quadrupedal. Read the full article in #ProcB: https://t.co/80dVxzUEP1 | @Sketchy_raptor @Tweetisaurus #OpenAccess #FossilFriday
I've been seeing this image from the recent ornithischian paper and I can't help but be disturbed by the edmontosaurus. All the other ornithischians look goofy when facing forward but the forward-facing edmontosaurus is genuinely the most terrified I've ever been of a dinosaur.
🦖 Daily Dino 🦖: Kulindadromeus zabaikalicus
A Jurassic ornithischian that preserves both feathers and scales, giving hard proof that the two types of integuiment could coexist in non-avian dinosaurs
It also supports the theory that feathering was ancestral to all dinosaurs
Eocursor my favorite adorable little basal ornithischian <3
My memory theropods aren't that far off. This means I should draw some more ornithischians from memory and see how wrong I can truly be.
We got two talks at #2022SVP that outlined the various ways that small ornithischians could beat you in a street fight.
Congrats to @boydpaleo and @DoubleBeam for their awesome talks. Very excited to see where this research goes. #ornithischians #paleontology
#Thescelosaurus is a relatively small (4 - 4.5 meter/ 12-15 foot long) neornithischian #dinosaur from the #Lancian region. Like all ornithischian #dinosaurs, Thescelosaurus was an herbivore, likely feeding on low growing foliage such as ferns and horsetails.
Geranosaurus is a genus of ornithischian dino that lived in the Early Jurassic period. It was discovered in South Africa from a few fragments of skull, part of the jaw and limb elements, While theres still a lot we don’t know, it was featured in the JP institute 💜
Harry Potter Fan theory:
Thestrals are ornithischian dinosaurs descended from ceratopsians—the group that includes Triceratops.
They are basically what happens when ceratopsian dinosaurs evolve the way maniraptorans gave rise to birds.
Adding some smallish bipedal ornithischians to the mix was a must and Thescelosaurus with well known osteology and interesting skull shape was a obvious pick (also gives the T. rex something to eat)
First ornithischians or non-dinosaurian dinosauriforms? Silesaurus (top) and Lewisuchus (bottom)
By the way, I do not think “silesaurids” (including Pisanosaurus) are jerks but AMAZING animals that were much more interesting than many ornithischians that came afterwards 🙊🙊🙊
Started updating something new this morning. Not enough ornithischians on my feed yet.
Have been thinking about small ornithischian during #paleostream, so here, take some :D!!!

Ornithischians breathed a bit like crocodiles, in that muscles originating on the pelvic girdle pulled on the thoracic peritoneum to generate negative pressure and draw in air (unlike us mammals, who use a diaphragm attached to the ribs to do the same). 🎨 from paper.
