SCOT-TOBER DAY 7: The Rhynie man
Found on an old Pictish stone. It’s unknown wether he is a god, a creature, a demon or a local figure. Whoever they are, they were fearsome.

The view of the Rhynie Chert was largely inspired by one of my favorite paleo artworks, Germanodactylus cristatus by .

When I first started paleoart around 2017, I was basically just doing colored pencil & ink in sketchbooks. Here's a few drawings from then: Skull of Nemegtomaia, the Early Devonian plant Discalis, Tupandactylus eating fruit, and an aerial view of the Rhynie Chert

Rhyniella

A prehistoric springtail, it used to be considered the oldest known insect but springtails arent considered insects anymore

ALT: known from head pieces in amber, at some point it was considered the same as rhyniella, its a mystery if it was an insect or a myriapod

In the lower reaches of a vast mountain range, tiny plants grow around the hot springs of Rhynie. Animals, plants, and fungi are collaborating, competing, and exploiting one another as life gains a foothold - and roothold - on land.
