Creating a 2D/3D world with a painterly feel took a lot of collaboration and iteration. We layered splines, textures and sprites with a colour and weather system to create structure and atmosphere.

Love developing new systems. This one (still a work-in-progress) involves L-Systems, clustering algorithms, convex hull, randomness, and bezier splines. Combining mathematics to produce art is one of my favorite things in life :)

Added in some hand drawn lines, and I'm also shaking things up a little with variable line weight based on a texture input

Rough muzzle surface is mostly finished. A bit slimmer in width and thinner. Surfaces are made using T-splines, resulting in delicious smooth surfaces (at the cost of some headaches).
Some work remains before the 60mm fan mount, LED covers and screw holes are placed.

the whole thing is maybe 40-50 splines, with the big ones being used to block out the shape of the hair and the smaller ones being used for wisps and details. I think it took me maybe 10 hours to do, which I wish were faster but I think it's not bad

thanks! so basically I just duplicate the clump I modeled, put a path deform modifier on it to make it conform to a spline, then adjust stretch/rotation/twist etc to get it to look good. for making the splines, max lets you draw splines on a surface if you turn on 3d snaps
