And that means my #ThisWeekInMarvel goes to #CaptainAmerica (@JacksonLanzing Kelly, @CarmenCarnero). This book is so good, so RIGHT in depicting Cap that I would recommend it to people to explain just why I love Steve Rogers so much. His heart is bigger than his muscles…
#AXEDeathToMutants (@kierongillen Vilanova, @alex_guim) The Machine is, as ever, a delightful narrator and there’s a wit to the dialogue overall that is so much fun. There’s a scary Chinese to the art that really works as well - This event is way more fun than expected!
So #ThisWeekInMarvel goes to #Variants (@GailSimone Noto) Still no idea what’s happening (intentionally!) but when the character work is so moving and meaningful & the art layers the emotion so effectively, you don’t want anything more. Seeing Jess’ traumas like this…wow. Hurts.
#Thunderbolts (@JimZub @SeanIzaakse Tartaglia) was so so close to being my pick of the week. It’s gorgeously done (the acting!) it’s intriguing it’s fun, it has funny parts and heartfelt parts and a whole lot of lovable Clint Barton. And Spectrum. What more could you want?
But #ThisWeekInMarvel goes to #BlackCat! (@jedmackay Perez, D’Armata). Jed MacKay’s Felicia combined with the art team from the fabulous Spider-Woman books. Perfect. This book….what can I say? It has moxie for days. You need more? It has sass, fights & heart. Just. Read. It.
#CaptainMarvel (@gronbekk Gomez, Dijjo) was such fun! carol in space! Starjammers! (I have a real spot spot for Hepzibah). Heart and love in the middle of sparkly punches and power moves? This had all that and more. Very pretty to look at too with some awesome facial expressions
And so, inevitably, #ThisWeekInMarvel goes to #BlackWidow (@79SemiFinalist @LaraWest Bellaire). Its dark and heavy- everything is weighted with meaning and almost despair, and pragmatism, and yet things don’t feel hopeless. It looks like nothing else, it feels like nothing else!
#MsMarvel (Ahmad, Genolet, @Treestumped) This felt like classic Ms Marvel in all the best ways - home life, friends, gyros. Plus a meditation on what it means to be a hero and, best of all, NADIA! And the twist at the end too! Just an utter delight, frankly.
Silk (Kim, @takmiyazawa Herring) this had a lot of things I love - especially super heroes trying to be normal. And, of course, failing. A bit of a bridge book in terms of the main plot, but it didn’t feel that way give. The character work. And Luna Snow too!
