#ShangChi (@geneluenyang Ruan @Treestumped) This had some great twists and turns in it with family loyalties shifting like a flute song in the breeze. It set up a really interesting next stage of the story too - the mythos and lore of Shang-Chi is really developing and I love it
#BlackKnight (@sispurrier Quinn, @IsraelSilvaArt) This was big and bombastic and mythic and British (and sweary) and surprisingly fun. It also really built on the Black Knight legend and background in interesting ways.
And so my #ThisWeekInMarvel goes to #SpiderWoman (@THEKarlaPacheco Perez, D’Armata). It’s as gorgeous and well laid out as ever. It’s funny and brutal and heart-ripping. And there are some really clever visual touches I only spotted on a second read through so pay attention!
@AgentM #ThisWeekInMarvel How on earth do you pick ONE favourite comic issue??? But, if you force me, I’m going to say Unstoppable Wasp #8. It was one of the first comic series I read, and that issue, where Nadia chooses her name was the lightbulb moment (tbc in next tweet)
#DeathOfDrStrangeSpiderMan (@jedmackay Ferreira, Crossley) was exactly as fun as you’d expect Black Cat to be, but she shows her claws too. It’s clever and really makes the case for how big a problem the lack of a Sorcerer Supreme is, while also really pushing the Reilly arc.
So #ThisWeekInMarvel goes to #spiderWoman (@THEKarlaPacheco Perez, D’Armata) It’s gorgeous, it’s funny, it’s action packed. It’s full of heart and meaningful moments and silliness and invention and questions and just really REALLY good stuff.
#ThisWeekInMarvel goes to #BlackCat! (@jedmackay, Villa, @ReberVision) There’s a sense of lightness, even as everything in Felicia’s world is getting crazier and feels like it might be spinning out of control. It’s madness, but a beautiful madness.
So #ThisWeekInMarvel goes to #SpiderWoman! (@THEKarlaPacheco Perez, D’Armata). Awesome layouts and pages, and a great balance of humour and heart, action and kitchen sink drama. Loved this issue SO MUCH.
#MightyValkyries (@gronbekk Iulis) was utterly insanely beautiful, as you expect. Was bleakly, mythically, haunting - as you also expect. Was warm and uplifting. This series has been a joy in so many ways. I’m sorry it’s over but so so glad it existed.
