A better clean version of the key art for the Japanese Mega Drive version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters. From the November 1993 issue of Beep! Mega Drive

However, in the canceled outsourced version of Street Fighter II: Champion Edition for the Genesis, Bison has a different portrait where he still wore the communist star. The final in-house version uses the same portrait as the PC Engine version and the Super NES's Turbo edition.
In the CPS1 versions of Street Fighter II, M. Bison (Dictator) originally had a communist star on his cap. When World Warrior was ported to the Super NES, the star was changed to a winged skull to more accurately reflect the promo art of the character from Champion Editon.
These ads are notable as they featured clean versions of the main visuals for both games. In the case of Tournament Fighters, you can see Karai's face in the background, which is obscured in the actual packaging. Any idea who were the illustrators for each? #TMNT
Naked Snake's nickname during Peace Walker was Vic Boss, whereas Vic Viper was the spacecraft in the first Gradius engineered by Dr. Venom. There was also an orbital frame modeled after the Vic Viper in ZOE2.

Another odd coincidence
Solid Snake's codec portrait in the earliest demos for Metal Gear Solid released in Japan was very different. It was more closely patterned to the portrait featured in promotional materials, which did not have visible eyes like in the final portrait.
@JoestarSan He mentions the inspirations for the other characters too. Misuzu, the boss of Stage 3 in the original Renegade/Nekketsu Kouha, was based on a character of the same name from the manga Hana no Ouendan/嗚呼!!花の応援団, who was also a brutish female delinquent.
『ポリスノーツ』のメリル・シルバーバーグは『クライング・フリーマン』のキッチェが元ネタらしい。 これは小〇〇夫氏が小〇〇夫氏に取り違えられることの理由かなぁ。(笑)
Meryl Silverburgh's design in Policenauts appears to had been based on the villainess Kitche from Crying Freeman.
