Great C64 Moments #34 – Way of the Exploding Fist
Fist floored me like a flying kick to the head the first time I saw it. The bone-crunching SFX, the superb graphics, & the intense, one-on-one combat gameplay was like nothing I'd seen before on a home computer. Truly magnificent
Great C64 Moments #15 – Summer Games
Coinciding with the 1984 LA Olympics, Summer Games was the first of Epyx’s legendary ‘Games’ series that hooked C64 gamers for the rest of the decade. With ace animation, superb sound and varied gameplay, it was a truly state-of-the-art game.
Great C64 Moments No 11 – Forbidden Forest
Released in time for Halloween 83, FF was an unforgettable experience when first encountered. It has everything a horror game should – gore, a haunting soundtrack & gripping, tense & addictive gameplay. Genuinely unnerving at the time.
Great C64 Moments No 10 – International Soccer
Its early killer app, I.S. must've sold millions of C64s. Amazing in 1983, it didn’t just look good, it played like a dream, showed off the C64 as a superb gaming platform & set the bar for footy games for the rest of the decade.
C64 Chronicles No. 7 - PCG
Interest in computer games grew rapidly in the early 80s & numerous magazines appeared - such as C&VG. My favourite was Personal Computer Games, a brilliant read that set the tone & standard for the wonderful world of gaming mags that were to follow.
My Favourite C64 Coders No.3
Archer MacLean
Archer only made 3 C64 games, but my goodness they were awesome. Dropzone is a thrilling blaster, International Karate is a flawless one-on-one fighter and IK+ is one of my all-time faves & IMO one of the greatest ever C64 games.
My Favourite C64 Coders No.8
David Collier
As Ocean/Imagine’s main man on the C64, Dave made some of the most-played and best-loved games of the 1980s including Arkanoid, Combat School, Green Beret, Hyper Sports, Rambo, Target Renegade, Terra Cresta & Yie Ar King Fu. Blimey.
My Favourite C64 Coders No.9
Geoff Crammond
Geoff made his name with Revs in 86 & he was the guy behind the awesome Stunt Car Racer a few years later. But his best creation IMO is The Sentinel. A gripping, absorbing, unique experience and one of my all-time favourite games.
My Fave C64 Coders No.12
Chris Butler
Chris appeared in 1985 with the superb shooters Hyper Circuit & Z. After that came Commando then the brilliant Ghosts N Goblins. Next was 720, fab racers Power Drift & Turbo Charge and the excellent isometric run and gun game Arnie. Wow!
My Favourite C64 Coders No.21
Denton Designs
Denton made some of the greatest games of the golden age of 8-bit computer gaming. Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Shadowfire, Enigma Force, The Great Escape, Mutants – to name a few. All of them are original, absorbing, brilliant games.
